Securing Microsoft Azure Natively

Posted by ConvergeOne on Jun 22, 2021 10:00:00 AM

Since its launch in 2010, Microsoft Azure has gained popularity and trust with customers on a global scale. Azure is a public cloud offering that provides solutions for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). However, as with any cloud provider, there are concerns around security and breach issues (i.e., how safe is my data?), as the solutions are hosted in a cloud service provider (CSP) data center.

Azure’s Foundation is Built on Security

Today’s organizations run on a hybrid model, meaning they have infrastructure on-premises and also in the public cloud. With that being said, Microsoft has implemented a Zero Trust model to enable its platforms to help close security gaps and minimize risk to customers’ data. Zero Trust is defined by least privilege and, even though the user is behind the firewall, verification is needed from anyone trying to gain access to a resource.

What Security Controls Do I Need?

It doesn’t matter whether your organization is thinking of adopting cloud, are already established in the cloud but thinking about moving to another service provider, or are simply concerned about security because of the ever-expanding number of cyber threats—regardless, you need to consider cloud security and its impact to the business during the planning stages of any project or new implementation.

The areas below must be taken into consideration on any cloud approach:

  • Identity + Access Management (IAM)
  • Data Protection / Encryption
  • Endpoint Protection
  • Operational Security
  • Compliance

Azure Built-in Controls Can Help

Microsoft Azure has an extensive list of built-in controls that protect your workloads and help you gain visibility and insights from Azure Security Center. Azure has the ability to detect threats early using machine learning, behavioral analytics, and application intelligence.

Let ConvergeOne help you build out your security controls in your Azure environment, or leverage our Data Center Assessment to keep you in compliance and fully secured.
